    Albums that have changed my life:

    1. The Strokes  Is This It?
    2. Spoon  Kill The Moonlight
    3. My Morning Jacket  It Still Moves
    4. Radiohead  Ok Computer
    5. Broken Social Scene  You Forgot It In People
    6. Eric Clapton  Unplugged
    7. The Beatles  Abbey Road
    8. Animal Collective  Fall Be Kind

    I don’t know why I haven’t seen anyone else do this, but these are the albums that have shaped me today. Some may contest that they aren’t the best albums by these bands, but these are the ones that made me think about thinks with a profound difference. 

    1. The Strokes put out Is This It?  back in 2001, I picked it up in summer of 2002 and at first thought it was horrible. The more I found myself listening to a few tracks again and again, then eventually I was overwhelmed by the perfection of the album. The track “Alone, Together” was meant to be a B-Side, but after 9/11 they had to recall the album because of the song “New York City Cops” and it was thus replaced. The album with NYC Cops is a perfect 10 to me. I’ve flown to Chicago to see a super secret show of The Strokes before First Impressions of Earth was released, then saw them this year at Lollapalooza. In total, I’ve seen them 4 times.

    2. The Strokes got me going with alternative music, but at the top with a few others comprising my favorite bands is Spoon. Britt Daniel is a genius, leading this band from Austin, Texas. They are so catchy and different, it is always refreshing to hear them. Kill the Moonlight was the album that put them on the map, but every album since has been what has sustained them there. They just constantly put out good records.

    3. Radiohead have so many good albums. The Bends is my favorite, but OK Computer is what made me rethink how music was supposed to sound. So many of their sounds are far and away from anything anyone had ever done up until this album.

    4. When I was going to the library, checking out albums from Spoon, The Strokes, and all the other artists from 2003, the librarians would stick a piece of paper with the name of the person who reserved it and place it protruding from the cd or book so you knew it was something you had reserved or not. This girl had taken one of her slips and wrote how much she liked my music choices that she had seen sitting on the shelf and said a few other nice things. I was intrigued so went to her reserves to see if anything was in. Sure enough was a cd by a band called Broken Social Scene. The album, You Forgot It In People. I went home and reserved it to get it right after this girl. I listened to it and slowly it grew on me. I ended up growing very attached to them, but I never did end up figuring out who that girl was. Where ever she may be.

    5. Eric Clapton was a fantastic guitarist and that was the first thing to attract me to his playing style. I loved his voice and he has so much emotion behind his words and music. Unplugged is the best. 

    6. Bob Bob Bob Bob Dylan. What a classic. Highway 61 Revisited. Some of the best.

    7. The Beatles are one of my favorites. What Abbey Road does is present a more mature side to them and I LOVE it.

    8. Animal Collective approach music in such a different way. They expand on rhythmic and melodic qualities in the most unique way. Fall Be Kind is some of their best work. 

    9. I intentionally saved My Morning Jacket for last. They are the most complex band. I absolutely love them. Jim James, Carl Broemel, Tommy “Two Tone”, and the rest of them. Freaking amazing.  It Still Moves is so in line with stuff from it’s genre, but does it the absolute best. They go on to create more complex sounds, but this is just the best album in it’s entirety.
